Varnish Cache is an open source, state of the art web application accelerator. You install it on your web server and it makes your website fly.
To one of my clients requirements, i tried varnish. Extremely simple to install and configure. Gone are the days where you needed to tune your squid reverse proxy , varnish plays a singlteon role of reverse proxy and plays it really well.
